Shipping Update!
over 4 years ago – Thu, Sep 05, 2019 at 04:17:20 PM

Hello metallurgists!

It’s with much excitement that we are able to say shipping is 99% complete! If you have not received your game, or an email from us regarding the status of your order then please let us know. Unfortunately some packages get lost in transit, and we need your help to correct this error. We have been doing our best to deliver all games at the same time, and we sincerely appreciate the patience of those who receive their game a little later than others.

Please contact us at [email protected] with any issues and we will do our best to correct them ASAP.

We love seeing our fans enjoying theirs games, so we encourage you to post lots of photos on your favorite social media platforms. We especially love ones featuring all your furry friends trying their paws at a new game!

As always, thank you for your patience as we tie up all the loose ends on another successful campaign. We are fortunate to have such amazing supporters!

Shipping Update + Message from Jordan
over 4 years ago – Fri, Jul 26, 2019 at 12:28:53 AM

Hello metallurgists!

We are seeing more people every day online showing off their copies of METAL, and they look so great! Hopefully you are all playing lawn games outside during the summer days and inside with METAL at night :)

SHIPPING UPDATE

Blackbox emailed us and let us know the status of international orders. AU and CA orders are going out now and UK orders have just been imported. We've found in the past that from first package going out to last, the whole process is about a month, which puts shipping for everyone wrapping in about a week.

Like with any game being shipped, there will be some issues. We are using Blackbox for shipping and you can contact them directly for the fastest resolution: [email protected]

As always, you can contact us with any concerns or questions as well. Please note for shipping issues, contacting Blackbox will resolve the issue faster.

MESSAGE FROM JORDAN

DESIGN INTENT OF METAL

Some of you have voiced disappointment in the lack of paper rules in METAL. I want to take the opportunity to share a much deeper look into the design intent of the game, and why rules were not included in the box. There are many factors involved, we’ll take them on one at a time:

MATERIAL SERIES

The entire purpose of the material series is to explore a single material per game, down to every detail. This means absolutely no other materials can comprise a component of the game, or the box itself. My vision from the beginning of this entire series of games was to stick to this principal, and thus paper rules will not be included in any of the games (except in Paper of course).

Why was there shrink wrap on the box, and why were there plastic bags in the box then?

The reason for shrink wrap and plastic bags being in the box is simply packaging. In order to stick to the design of a two piece telescoping board game box, another intent of the project, there needed to be shrink wrap on the box.

The plastic bags the pieces come in were required for organizing the pieces for packing in the factory, and while this could have been overridden (it would have cost us more money), the pieces being loose in the box would have caused dents and scratches on both the box and potentially finishes rubbing off during the rough voyage. Just as with the shrink wrap, the intent is to remove the bags from the game. They are not a component, and they were only necessary for shipping.

NO INCLUDED RULES

The next two points were critical for the project, one specific to METAL and the other to all of the material series games.

Legacy lawn games

METAL was designed as a lawn game experience playable on a table. Half of the games are classic lawn games, and the other half similar style games I designed. When you play a classic lawn game such as Kubb, or croquet, the people you play with may have a different interpretation of the rules that were passed down to them from generations past.

This is an incredibly important element to lawn games for me, which became very apparent after playing Kubb with Norwegians, and then Danes, and noticing they played the same game differently.

METAL carries on this legacy by leaving the interpretation and teaching of the rules up to the people you play with. You can choose to play the classic games however you wish, and my games are all designed to be loosely structured enough that the rules can bend and change over time as you like. This is intentional, and while I will host my personal rules on my website indefinitely, I encourage you to be playful and experiment with the structure of the games.

Future designs

As a final point here, I am still designing more games for METAL, which will be available on my website. The Sacrificial Plinth will be the first of these, and these rules would be separated from the others if rules were included in the box at delivery.

Actual metal material rules

Lay Waste Games and I had a very serious conversation about producing metal rules to put in the box, made of either engraved aluminum or something similar. In the end we made the decision that forcing this extra cost (which would have raised the price of the game up to $45-50 by our estimates) was not worth it. That price jump alone would have made the game less accessible to those with less to spend on the hobby, and it wasn’t necessary for the vision of the game as described above.

I take feedback very seriously and I have heard many of you loud and clear, and if there is enough demand to have optional rules made of metal created as a separate purchase, I will consider producing them to sell. This will require a minimum number of you with interest, which I will take by a pre-order poll in the near future. The other material series games will likely have a similar aspect, with rules purchased separately in the correct material if the price is prohibitive.

CONCLUSION

I want to give a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported my designs. I aim to push the boundaries of what is possible and widely commonplace, and with METAL, this meant keeping strictly to my design intent. I will push forward with this same intent for the whole material series, I hope you’ll join me. Innovation cannot come without risk, sacrifice, and an open mind. Thank you for yours.

We would love to hear what you think of the games! Why not give them all a play, you should be able to get through all six in less than an hour if you’re quick. All of the rule PDFs are available at jordandraper.com/rules

Box Update + PAX Pickup Update
about 5 years ago – Fri, Mar 08, 2019 at 12:31:26 AM

Hello metallurgists!

First, surveys have been sent. If you have not received your survey, go here to have it sent again. Now onto the fun stuff!

BOX UPDATE

Since going into production, we noticed that the steel boxes were not looking exactly the way we wanted. The steel box didn’t fit together properly and the stamping wasn’t working as expected. Not the type of quality you would expect from Jordan and Lay Waste Games. AND WE WON'T STAND FOR THAT!

We always had the option of aluminum, but originally didn't go with it due to a very high cost. However, thanks to the amazing folks at Panda (looking at you Joe Wiggins!), we managed to make it work and now all copies of METAL will come in an amazingly precise aluminum box! The box is cast and laser etched in aluminum, allowing for a precision perfect solution. Check out this video to see for yourselves!

PAX EAST PICKUPS

We are still not sure if this is going to be doable, and should know more in about a week. Coming down to the wire! But if it is, you will be able to swing by the Lay Waste booth to grab your copy, plus two free pins to make up for the shipping cost. One Pinny Arcade pin of your choice from Lay Waste, and one pin from Jordan as well. Stay tuned for updates!

For those not going to PAX, if PAX pickup happen, we will be air shipping your games from China to get them into your hands as fast as possible! The reason we are able to get you them this early via air shipping is because we are selling them at PAX East to balance out the added cost. We did this before with Dragoon and it worked out very well. Estimated time table is a few weeks after PAX for US delivery, and a bit longer for non-US, as the fulfillment center needs time to receive and dispatch all games. Once we have more solid details, we will send out another update.

Thank you all!
